A line for all my readers:
Im just a beginner in this section,so please never hesitate to forward all your suggestions and critical viewpoints in your comments. It would only help me to improve my writing skills further...
A year has passed since i have pursued b.tech in chemical engineering and i have just given freshers to my succeeding batch. However,i still haven't forgotten the first day when i had arrived at the college campus with uncanny thoughts crossing across my mind.I had read about ragging in engineering colleges a million times,so inspite of my level best to stay relaxed,i still could not drive away the fear from my mind which automatically crept in.One consolation was i had one of my friends from school,Saptarshi to give me company and we had been alloted the same room in the hostel.Though we shared a good rapport, the other two room partners were complete strangers in the first place. We had to go to college for director's inaugural speech in no time and complete all the formalities. When we were done,i came back to the hostel and started unpacking my belongings. It was a tough job as i had always depended on my mother for all these years.I still managed to do it efficiently as i was mentally prepared to face the challenging hostel life by now after so much of advice from all nook and corners of my house. It was only after having snacks in the evening that i got acquainted with some of the other boarders.Soon the warden arrived and comforted us.He told us to contact him as soon as possible if any problem arise. It was raining heavily so we could not wander about the campus that day.Classes were supposed to start the next day but since we had no books yet,we could not start studying. So the only option left was to gossip among friends. Each of us shared with others the place where we came from, the school we studied as well as the % marks in h.s. exam and joint entrance rank.Soon the momentum shifted to informal talk like attending sudden calls from seniors, ability to wash clothes, preparing the bed and trying to maintain a perfect decorum for the first few weeks. After a while i came to know that some of the hostellers communicated in hindi.Though i knew it a fair bit from school,i still needed to brush up because they hardly understood bengali or even english. It was no big issue though as we fell into chatting with some of our non-Bengali friends too.I had a vague idea that it would be difficult to spend time but actually it did fly.We had to go for dinner eventually. It was really aweful to have the average-class food after freshly arriving from home with mom-made delicious items still lingering in my tongue! But i knew that it would soon become a habit. Some of our friends who stays in the vicinity like Asansol and Raniganj told us that there are many amusement centres in Durgapur like the Big Bazaar mall and science and technology park. The natural beauty in and around our campus was also really captivating. My parents' foreboding to roam about the surroundings was still whirling in my mind.Little did i know that city centre would be my favourite spot to bunk classes and hang around with friends(p.s. im not a bookworm!)as i love socialising.I went to sleep that night with a bit of uncertainty in my heart but with a lot of hope that im going to enjoy my newly obtained independent life inspite of adjusting to several tricky situations and compromising many luxuries!I was optimistic that however sceptical my fellow boarders seem to be,they will surely assure me of their support because it was a struggle for existence and unity had to prevail over marooned islandic views. After all the hostel was going to be our new alma-mater.
That is all for today but i will be back with my next blog as soon as possible.Till then keep passing on your remarks and always take care...
